JAAI Alumni Exchange to Spain 2012

JAAI Alumni Exchange team to Spain along with Naresh Gupta (JAAI President), Sidartha Dudhoria (Mentor of AEP) & Anindya Tarafder (co-convener). The team leaves for Spain on 11th April 2012.

APX Volleyball Night

The Association of Past Xavierites ( APX ) , the Alumni Association of the St.Xaviers High School Loyola Hall Ahmedabad hosted a Volleyball Tournament on Sunday 19th on the school grounds. 9 teams participated in this tournament, some of the best players from Gujarat as well as some national Volleyball players were seen in action. The matches started from 2pm and the final was played at 9pm, an entire day of quality volleyball. Prizes and trophies were handed out and we had good crowds during the entire duration of the tournament.  APX finished 3rd, quite an achievement with so many top teams and players in the fray.

 
Prior to this, on Saturday 18th, we had APX members practice hard to prepare for this tournament from 8pm till midnight. Volleyball is a daily feature on the school grounds and APX members play everyday along with the school players.

The Spanish Alumni Exchange Program (AEP) is a feather in JAAI cap and we are pleased to inform that the Second JAAI group is expected to visit Spain in April/May 2012. As of now we have confirmations from 6 alumni members.

APX Republic Day cricket

Republic Day 2012 began with flag hoisting.

This was followed by a T-20 cricket match between the alumni of APX (Association of Past Xavierites, St.Xaviers High School Loyola Hall Ahmedabad) and H.L. College of Commerce. a leading commerce college in Ahmedabad.This is an annual event for the teams and this was the 5th year running, APX leads the series 3-2. The matches are played alternately at St.Xaviers and H.L. College grounds.Hundreds of supporters from both Associations and Institutes support and enjoy these matches. Refreshments and Lunch are served during the match.

Rev. Fr. LAWRENCE ABELLO, S.J.

Fr. Lawrence Abello, S.J., renowned professor, inventor and a devout companion of Mother Teresa passed away on January 22, 2012 at St Xavier's College, Kolkata, India.

Born in Leuven, Saskatchewan, Fr. Abello graduated from Campion College High School in 1949. He joined the Jesuits in 1956; he volunteered for the Darjeeling Mission, and took his final vows in 1974.

He taught philosophy in India, earned a Ph.D. in physics from Wayne State University, Detroit, and held two patents for his inventions.

Fr. Abello was a champion of the unborn, immersed himself in the service of the poor and guided many who chose to work with the poor in Kolkata.

APX annual dinner

APX (Association of Past Xavierites, St.Xaviers High School Loyola Hall Ahmedabad) hosted its annual dinner on Saturday 21st January 2012. The evening started with a musical program at 6.30pm and the crowds were enthralled to a song and mimicry program till 8.30, dinner was served then, and over 275 people enjoyed the evening.

The school staff and management were all invited by the APX. APX members, Staff and Management were all present and this program is a bonding between all the special people who are the pillars of the Institute. All present had a wonderful time and were briefed about the JAAI happenings and hierarchy and the upcoming West Zone Congress in Mumbai.

Bond of Boys 2012 Cricket School V Alumni

The Bond of Boys Alumni V School cricket match was filled with thrills and aching alumni bodies. The first match played with the school Under 16 boys was a thriller. A last ball four hit by Denzil Rego ended the very close match.

The second match involved the School Under 12 boys and alumni. The little Under 12's literally made alumni run around and won the match

All had a great time and it was great fun interacting with the young kids of our school. Thanks to alumnus Farookh Munsiff and his able team of volunteers who conducted the matche

 

Bond of Boys 2012 Reunion night

Bond of Boys 2012 Reunion night was held on 15 January 2012 on the School's Backyard lawns. Alumni from across the years assembled met each other and had a great time. Melville D'souza from Class of 1941 was the oldest alumnus present along with Dr Keki Gharda (Class of 1944).

The logo for the Sesquicentenary celebrations (150 years ) of our school was unvield. The logo was designed by Master Prajwal Bhagat of Class VI D and winner of the logo competition. 

Alumnus Gautam Patil was presented the School flag by our Principal Fr. Jude Fernandes SJ for his expedition to Mt. Everest in April 2012. All present wished Gautam well for his expedition.
