JAAI Green Student Awards

JAAI Eco Warriors (sponsored by BAPSA) – Student Voice for the Planet

  • Open to all secondary school students studying in institutions under Jesuit West Zone provinces of Bombay, Pune, Gujarat and Goa.
  • Each school may submit a maximum of 2 entries only
  • Essay Theme:
  • “Saving the Planet: A Student’s Vision and Action”
  • The essay must be substantive, meaningful, and relevant to India’s environmental context while also touching on global perspectives.
  • Word Limit
  • Between 400 to 600 words (or as uniformly determined by the teacher-in-charge).
  • Language : (Based on Medium of Instruction at School)
  • English, Gujarati or Marathi
  • Approval & Endorsement
  • Each entry must be reviewed, approved, and countersigned by the concerned department (e.g., Environment/English/Social Science) and the School Principal
  • Originality
  • The essay must be the student’s own original work
  • Use of Artificial Intelligence tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, DeepSeek, Copilot, Grammarly, etc.) for writing, editing, spell check, formatting, or any other assistance is strictly prohibited
  • Any detection of AI-assisted content will lead to disqualification
  • An understanding of climate change and its impact on India
  • Personal ideas or suggestions for (one or more):
  • Saving water
  • Tree plantation & reforestation
  • Soil erosion prevention
  • Energy conservation and alternative energy
  • One or more creative, innovative ideas proposed by the student that are realistic, impactful, and implementable
  • A sense of alignment with India’s vision for sustainability and ecological responsibility

The student must provide supporting evidence of real-world eco-action

  • Photos or videos of a project they contributed to or led (can be completed  2–3 years ago and results are now evident or ongoing)
  • Articles, media coverage, or school newsletters referencing the initiative
  • Testimonials from teachers, local community, or peers
  • A brief impact statement summarizing outcomes achieved

Essays will be judged on the following parameters

  • 2 Prizes (English) – INR 10,000/- 1st prize, & INR 5000 2nd prize will be bestowed to the winners by cheque in the name of the winning student .
  • 1 Prize (Gujarati) – INR 5000
  • 1 Prize (Marathi) – INR 5000
  • Green certificate to be issued with the title GREEN STUDENT AWARD (Sponsored by BAPSA) signed by JAAI WZ President & BAPSA President .
  • Late submissions will not be entertained
  • Schools are encouraged to host internal essay selection rounds to ensure fair representation.
  • Decision of the jury panel will be final and binding, in case of tie breaker BAPSA may be consulted.
  • Winning entry may be published in Jesuit magazines or websites with student and school credit.
