The Global Ignatian Advocacy Network (GIAN) in Ecology (responsible for the website and newsletter Ecojesuit) started its 2024 work at full speed. An online meeting took place on the 18th January, featuring all the Conference Delegates (the European one being Filipe Martins SJ, also JESC Director), the new SJES Secretary Roberto Jaramillo SJ, and the network coordinator Pedro Walpole SJ.
Plans for the year include meetings every 6 weeks (in order to program and accompany activities more closely), the annual in-presence meeting being held in Africa (possibly Madagascar, where Jesuits lead several ecology projects), an edition of the Promotio Iustitiae magazine dedicated to Climate Justice and Agroecology, and an early preparation for COP29 in Baku (due to the meaningful presence during COP28, together with many other faith-based actors). A subsequent online meeting with partner organisations (namely CIDSE and the Ignatian Christian Life Community) took place on the 7th February, to share the latest news and explore possibilities of common work during the year.
