Indian flag flies high at WUJA Congress 2013

The Indian delegation to the World Union of Jesuit Alumni/ae (WUJA) Congress 2013 in Medellin Colombia comprised Keynote speaker from India Ms Swati Gautam, JAAI President Mr. Naresh Gupta, Fr.Fernand Durai SJ (Province Co-ordinator Gujarat), Mr.Krishnakumar Vijh (JAAI West Zone Council member) and Fr. Charles Aruldass SJ (Gujarat)
Ms Swati Gautam's keynote address was very well received and received a standing ovation. Mr Naresh Gupta also addressed the highly successfull Congress.
At the World Council meeting held during the Congress Mr. Ronald D'costa (India) was re-elected as the Treasurer of the WC. Mr Naresh Gupta (India) and Mr.Krishnakumar Vijh (India) were also elected as members of the World Council.

APX : Flag Hoisting and Football match.

I take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy Independence Day!! Today morning many APX members were present for the Flag Hoisting on the school grounds. The students participated in a patriotic song competition. A football match between the APX and the current school team was played on the school football ground. This is an annual feature in the activity chart of the APX. The school team prevailed 2-1, and the crowds witnessed a well fought match. Refreshments were served after the match. This activity is a special bonding between the past and the present which augurs well for the future.

Environment day at St.Xavier's High School,Ahmedabad (APX )

APX members participated in a Tree plantation drive on the School Campus on Saturday 10th Aug.  A lecture was given by rev.Fr.Shekher SJ on the importance of the tree plantation and environment, to the school students. Students had prepared skits, dances and lectures on this important issue.

Earlier in the week, a quiz program was held for the students on environment, and a premises cleanliness drive was taken up by the students on Saturday. The APX supports the school management and students and staff in organizing and carrying out such activities and also participates in large numbers.

TEXA Rangotsav 2013

TEXA organised "Rangotsav 2013" at St. Xavier's High School Gandhinagar. More than 350 alumni/ae attended with their spouses, children and friends. Everyone enjoyed the colourful event with amidst lots of dancing, music and colours.

The Ex-students symbolised the spirit Of Xavier's on a 50 feet canvas open which everyone left their coloured palm I press on. The end-result was a breath taking canvas filled ith palm prints with the names of each alumnae below their print.

The Chairman, Rev Fr Hector Pinto S.J. and President  Bhaumik Thakar addressed the gathering and announced the Mega GetTogether of TEXA after monsoon.

All enjoyed snacks and reminisced of their good old days at school

Association of Past Xavierites(APX) state level Volleyball tournament

The Association of Past Xavierites ( APX ), the Alumni Association of the St.Xaviers High School Loyola Hall Ahmedabad, hosted a state level Volleyball tournament on the school grounds, on Sunday 24th March. This event was given technical assistance by the Volleyball Federation of Gujarat state. 12 teams from all over Gujarat state participated in this event. APX also fielded a team. This was an invitational tournament where top teams from across the state were invited to play.

APX members played in this tournament and supported this huge event in large numbers. The local press also covered this tournament. This is the Silver Jubilee year of APX and throughout the year such events and programs are in the pipeline. The celebrations for this 25th year  started with a musical evening on the school grounds, attended by over 1200 revelers.

Association of Past Xavierites (APX) Silver Jubilee Celebrations

The Association of Past Xavierites (APX) , the alumni association of St.Xaviers High School Loyola Hall is celebrating its 25 years. Many programs are planned for this year. the celebrations started on Saturday 9th February, with a JAYKAR BHOJAK musical evening at 7.30 pm on the school grounds. Almost 1200 people enjoyed this musical evening, as this famous singer enthralled all with his songs, Gujarati songs, Bollywood songs and also songs rendered by school students and teachers as well as a masterpiece by APX members.

St. Xavier's College, Mumbai has three Padma awardees in 2013

St. Xavier's College, Mumbai, has three Padma awardees this year 2013

  1. Adi Godrej received the Padma Bhushan for Industry,
  2. Dr. Mustansir Barma - Director of the TIFR in Mumbai and a member of the Academic Board of our Autonomous College received the Padma Shri
  3. Ms. Mahrukh Tarapor received the Padma Shri for Art and Culture.

This year's three, come close on the heels of last year's 5 ! In 2012:

  1. Mr. Mario Miranda received posthumously the Padma Vibhushan.
  2. Dr. Jose Pereira received the Padma Bhushan for Literature and Education.
  3. Ms. Shabana Azmi, received the Padma Bhushan for Art and Cinema.
  4. Dr. Ms. Vidya Dehejia received the Padma Bhushan for Art
  5. Dr. Ms. Swati Piramal received the Padma Shri for Trade and Industry.

APX Flag hoisting and cricket match

APX (Association of Past Xavierites, St.Xaviers High School Loyola Hall Ahmedabad) members attended the Republic Day Flag Hoisting cermony at 9 am today on the school grounds. The staff, students and management were present along with APX members.

A cricket match followed, an annual match between APX and the alumni of a leading Commerce College of Ahmedabad. This is the 6th year in a row that such an event was being held and is hosted alternatively between the two competiting teams.  Members of both the associations participate in the revelry in large numbers, breakfast and lunch was served to all.

The management of both the Institutes were present at the event and support this inter alumni activity. The management of the St.Xaviers High School Loyola Hall provide wonderful facilities for playing, uniforms and caps were also provided, as also the cricket kit. The management supports the APX wholeheartedly in all its activities.
